Abner is a young farm pig that was a member of a university agricultural program. 

Raised by two students for a course in Animal Handling, Abner's planned fate was to be sold at market.  However, one of Abner's handlers refused to accept this outcome and was determined to give Abner a chance at life. 

As a result of his caring handler's persistence and dedication, Abner's fate was not the slaughterhouse, but a lifetime of peace and caring at Chenoa Manor.
